STUCCO – 1-COAT

WALL CLADDING  A. Ensure fascia returns are short of where the stucco will be installed, or wrapped in j-mold.  B. Weep screed has a minimum 3 ½" vertical leg that is installed under the drainage plane at wall-to-foundation transitions and roof-to-wall intersections.  C. Foam is installed and sealed with mesh tape with joints staggered.  D. Make sure the lath is held tightly, but about 1/8” to 1/4” off the wall over the entire surface.  E. Metal lath fasteners shall be installed to wood framing members not more than 6" apart and lapped 1" minimum at the sides and ends. Adjoining metal lath shall be staggered.  F. Ensure a minimum of 3/4" embedment into the

framing members. Fasteners must not be over driven to allow for proper stucco embedment.  G. Butterfly lath reinforcement is used at windows and doors. Butterflies are installed underneath rolls of metal lath.  H. Surface mounted trim and shutters are adhered to the surface or mechanically attached through the pre-installed flashing membrane.  I. Foam trim installed 1/2" below the window frame and sloped for drainage.  J. Verify two independent layers of paper are installed when foam bond break is not present.  K. Stucco cement classifcation verifed to be Type N, S or M.  L. Stucco sand is protected from contamination from native soils.  M. Stucco sand-to-cement ratio is measured according to manufacturer’s specifcations.  N. Minimum uniform base coat thickness applied per stucco manufacturer instructions for the specifc substrate conditions.  O. Finish coat, if required, apply once the frst coat is sufficiently rigid to accept the second coat. For adhered thin stone veneer, the base coat has been grooved per installation instructions.  P. No obvious cold joints visible.  Q. Horizontal surfaces have visual slope for drainage incorporated at frame and at fnish.  R. Each coat of stucco is cured per manufacturer installation instructions prior to application of subsequent coats. Coats must be properly hydrated to maintain a moist condition prior to application of next coat ensuring pH value is at or below 9.
