Steps to Building Your New Home
1 | PLUMBING Holes and trenches are dug, formed, leveled out and fitted for the installation of utilities, including plumbing and electrical chases, along with wooden forms or footings that serve as the foundation template. of the home is poured, filling in the holes and trenches, and given time to cure. Once cured, a waterproof membrane is applied to the foundation walls, plumbing is installed on the first level, and dirt that was excavated is back-filled into the hole around the foundation. 3 | FRAMING Serving as the skeleton of the home, framing includes installation of floor systems, walls and roof systems. Sheathing is applied to exterior walls, and installation of the roof, windows and exterior doors is completed. 4 | MECHANICALS Rough plumbing and electrical systems are installed once the skeleton is completed, running through the interior walls, ceilings and floors, including sewer lines, vents and water lines. Ductwork is installed for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. This is also the stage where bathtubs and shower/ tub units are put in place. 2 | FOUNDATION The concrete slab or foundation
5 | ROOFING Final mechanicals are installed after the roof goes on. This includes installing receptacles for outlets, lights and switches, wiring for telephones, cable TV and music systems. 6 | INSULATION Insulation plays an important role in creating a comfortable, consistent climate inside your home, keeping you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter months. The type of insulation used varies from region to region. 7 | DRYWALL Pre-Drywall Orientation will give you the chance to look at the exceptional materials and craftsmanship behind the walls. Once drywall is installed, you’ll really start to see your finished home taking shape! 8 | FINISHES It’s now time to install exterior finishes—such as brick, stucco, stone, and siding—along with the driveway and walkways. Next comes interior finishes, including doors, baseboards, door casings, window sills, stair balusters and all the decorative trim, along with cabinets, flooring, and a final coat of paint. And finally, the most exciting part, you get the keys!
